Currently Loving + Weekend Wishes

Lately I've been dreaming about wide open spaces, campfires and toasty smores, an adventurous road trip, and an epic change of pace this summer. I've been caught up in daydreaming about what our next adventure should be, which my heart has been craving, among many other things I can't get enough of.

Here's a little snapshot of what I'm currently loving...

summer in the mountains.

Currently...

listening//
To the latest Of Monsters and Men album released on Tuesday. Can't wait to catch them live in October? Any monster fans out there? This is my favorite song so far...

thinking//
Is it 5 o'clock yet? I am hitting the open road with my better half to go visit my lifelong besties. They all live where I grew up, so it's always fun to go 'home' and to spend way too much fun giggling with them. Bring on the coffee dates, laughing 'til our sides hurt, and finally being together!

buying//
These adorable handmade cards and items from blogger Nicole's amazing Etsy shop. She is the cutest thing ever and I love her whimsical well made creations. Check them out here and use promo code 'LIFEOFMEG' for 10% off your purchase!

eating//
This delicious recipe for Blueberry Crumb Pie. Hands down, one of my favorite summertime recipes!

watching//
The train wreck that is the Bachelorette. Every year I tell myself I won't watch, and every year I get pulled into the madness.

dreaming//
Of our next adventure. We are currently debating driving the Pac Coast Hwy from mid-California up to Seattle, or venturing out to Big Sky country to hike Grand Teton National Park and take in the gorgeousness at Yellowstone. More to come on that...

wanting//
A delicious blackberry lavender snow cone from one of my favorite hidden gems.

wishing//
I was sitting at a mellow hipster coffee shop, sipping a Spiced Latte in a cozy corner.

reading//
"I'm Having So Much Fun Here Without You" by Courtney Maum.
I picked up this book on our way back from Nashville and it's got me hooked. What are you reading? I love suggestions!

What are you currently loving?
Happy weekend, y'all!

Wishing You a Magical Weekend!

This morning I woke up thinking it was Saturday.
Ugh, what a cruel trick when I was all snuggled in my jammers under piles of cozy blankets.

Well, praise the Great Lion of Judah, the weekend is finally here. The countdown to 5 o'clock is on and I can't wait for fun weekend plans and a whole lot of relaxing. Here's what's happening...

Friday //
Tonight, my dear friend Karen and I have a lady date! We are planning to order a boat of sushi, grab some drinks, and hit the gorgeous Kauffman Center of the Performing Arts for a magical performance of The Nutcracker by the Kansas City Ballet. We bought these tickets MONTHS ago and have been counting down ever since.

Saturday //
I am going to sleep in and then grab coffee with my friend Kate, who is in town from Princeton, NJ where she is being an Ivy League smarty pants. Looking forward to catching up over good food and coffee, and of course snuggling Miss Piper Grace, her sweet little babe.

On Saturday night I am hitting the town with my hunky hubby for a date night out on the town. Good grief, I love that man and can't wait to hang!

Sunday //
Our church, Heartland Community Church, isn't holding any services so that groups can serve other instead (love this!). So we will be packing away meals for families in need that morning, and then we are going to hop over to my parents house for a festive early Christmas with everyone before we leave for Hawaii with Adam's side of the fam!

.:::.:::.:::.:::.:::.

I hope your weekend is more magical than snowflakes falling over a sparkly snow princess in tights.
Let's catch up for Mingle Monday and share our adventures, okay?

See you there, brave ones.

Weekend Outlook + Have a Brave One!

Hello, sweet weekend, I have missed you!
Every single day this week, I have woken up thinking it was Saturday like some kind of cruel joke. Then I would drudge away at work trying not to count the minutes that needed to tick by until 5 o'clock.

Please tell me I wasn't the only one this week...

Well, praise the Great Lion of Judah, the weekend is finally here.
I can't wait to celebrate with some fun plans and a whole lot of relaxing. Here's what's happening...

Friday //
Tonight, Ally and I are finally going to make it down to Westport to try out the acclaimed food at Port Fonda for the first time (I know, I know... I am way late to that fiesta), and then we will be taking in some Ingrid Michaelson awesomeness at Grinders. It's going to be a spectacular night.

Saturday //
I am dog sitting for several family members, so my house will be full of pups with cold noses and I couldn't be more excited. I can imagine a trip to the dog park will be in our very near future.

Adam has been in rural Canada this week on a business trip, so contacting each other has been slim to none with no phone service and spotty internet connection. Needless to say, I am missing my other half and can't wait to have his back home to catch-up.

Sunday //
I will be up bright and early just chilling with my cute 4th graders at Sunday school. After that we will hit up what my girls call "big church", and hopefully going to see a movie. The Hundred-Foot Journey has been calling my name ever since I saw the trailer, and I can't wait to revel in this foodie film.

.:::.:::.:::.:::.:::.

I hope you are braver this weekend than a Beast flying through the waves chasing her beloved stick.
Let's catch up for Mingle Monday and share our adventures, okay?

See you there, brave ones.

Roadtrip Weekend + Favorite View

When I was laying on the couch with hubs last night, I thought it was Friday. So, you can imagine my disappointment when Adam reminded me I had one more day - haha!

Needless to say, there is an extra spring in my step today as I know the weekend has arrived. I am already welcoming it with open arms!

Well, I am waiting for 5PM to click by on the clock so we can jump in the car and take in all of the beautiful sunset views that the Flint Hills has to offer. I love that gorgeous Kansas prairie view. Who said Kansas was boring?

We are heading to Wichita for the weekend to celebrate my cousin's high school graduation (way to go Ethan!) and to spend time with family and friends in my hometown.

I am just ready to throw on my shades, put my toes up on the dashboard and drive into the sunset. I can only imagine that we will indulge in our usual weird road trip rituals along the way...

+ listen to throw back mixed CDs
+ come up with the most obscure future dog or baby names just for funsies
(Adam is a champ... 'Phoenix' (for a kid), anyone?)
+ play the alphabet category game - we could play for hours
+ catch up on the most ridiculous stories or Adam will quiz me on current events
+ play "Hey Cow!"
(a Meg original specialty)

// What's are your favorite road trip rituals? //

Time to Play in the Dirt + Weekend Wishes

The weekend forecast has been checked, our list is made, and I am ready to get my hands dirty.
This weekend it's time to plant my very first garden! A big step for the Haskins House!

Luckily, my father-in-law and hubby are both garden planting geniuses, and my mom loves to garden, so it's safe to say that I'm in good hands. I will definitely be earning my green thumb badge with this undertaking, and I can't wait to learn more about keeping our own garden.

Not to mention I have lots of cute DIY garden projects in mind like a mini potted herb garden and making adorable garden markers. Can you tell that I'm head over heels excited?

What are you crazy kids up to this weekend? Anything fun on the books?

.:::.:::.:::.:::.:::.

In case you missed it...

Cheers to a weekend full of sunshine and new adventures!

Weekend Outlook + Giveaway Winner

I'm sitting here at work taking a quick coffee break and wishing I was with my blog friends at GO Blog Social, just blocks away. I've never been to a blog conference, but I am dying to go! Have you been to one before? Thoughts?

Also, thanks to all who entered the Scentsy giveaway! The lucky winner is... Stephanie Hubers! Congrats, I will contact you to get your prize to you!

Anyway, it's a good day, simply because it's Friday. My favorite day of the week. I am so antsy for some weekend relaxation to begin, and this weekend has a pretty promising outlook...

Friday//
I may run down the street over lunch to check out the West Bottoms Antique Shops, since they only open the first weekend of every month. There are so many great finds like re-purposed furniture, art, and home decor. My three favorite shops are (RE) Restoration Emporium, Good Juju, and Bottoms Up.

Adam is with the guys out at The K to watch the Royals Opening Day. So, I may round up the women folk and then we can meet up with them for dinner. Possibilities are endless!

Saturday//
Off to Zumba with my friend Magoo (no, just a nickname, but I wish it was her real name...) and then head on a nice long trail walk with hubs and pup. Saturday evening is all about celebrating our friend Ally's birthday, so the bash will be one heck of a good time!

Sunday//
I don't have my 4th grade Sunday schoolers this week (my break week!), so we can head to church whenever works best. I suspect I will want to cook a more complex recipe for a nice dinner and possibly bake a berry pie (aka: earn some serious wife points).

// What's your weekend outlook? //

Catch you for Mingle Monday at the start of next week!

Dirty 30 + Birthday Wishes

If you came over to the the Haskins House this morning, you would smell scents of maple syrup, smoky sausage, and blown out birthday candles wafting through the air as the two of us lounge around in our jammers.

Today is a very special day as Hubbers turns 30.
When I asked him how he wanted to spend the day, he simply said "together and relaxing". What a perfect way to celebrate.

So we've had our waffles (the best way to celebrate anything), and we're playing the day by ear. We may take Bella Beast for a walk or check off a restaurant from our ever growing wishlist. The beauty is we don't know what the day holds, but it's going to be fun.

On Saturday, I have planned a big bash at a cool new German restaurant that is rustic, manly, and has an extensive craft/import beer list for family and friends to celebrate Adam. I am thrilled how everything has come together and it will be so laid back and fun.

We are looking forward to seeing many close friends that we haven't seen in quite some time! It should be a fun, intimate, relaxing weekend celebrating this amazing man that we all know and love so deeply.

{I can't get enough of that little baby afro and diaper booty!}

Dear Hubs,

I am so thankful for you today and everyday. That sassy red hair has livened up the party for three decades now, and I can't wait to celebrate you. May you feel as deeply loved and cared for as you make everyone around you feel on a daily basis. I hope your birthday weekend is filled with Beast kisses, plaid, tasty brewskis, ample Mexican food, March Madness marathon watching, and an ample amount of sour patch kids.

Love you, sweets!

In case you missed it this week...

Have a lovely weekend, fun ones!

Weekend Outlook + Gratitude Lately

Remember that one time when I told you that I was going to post about our anniversary and our Disney World trip?

Ha!
...I do too.

Usually I borrow hubby's laptop at home to blog in the evenings, but he has that with him on business this week. Other times I use my work computer during my lunch break for a little creative posting time, but lately I've been working through lunch to catch up from being gone!

So, trust me, I totally feel like a failure, but I will be a blogging fool this weekend and will have tons of posts next week guaranteed. Thanks for sticking with me!

In other news, the weekend outlook is bright...

Looking forward to...

+ living in my yoga pants
+ a quiet Friday night at home
+ renting Catching Fire and Dallas Buyers Club
+ Saturday morning Zumba
+ my hubby coming back from Spokane
+ enjoying our clean house

Excited for these little adventures...

+ doing some DIY projects for Adam's 30th bday
+ cooking some new seasonal recipes
+ making more of the delicious honey roasted peanut butter I'm obsessed with
(recipe coming soon)

Thankful for these simple things this past week...

+ family time
+ walking dates with friends and pups
+ sunshine and spring weather
+ relaxation time and organization

// What things are you thankful for this week? //

Cheers to a great weekend!

Weekend Outlook

The sun is shining, my office is quieter than normal, and I am basking in Friday's glow.

I honestly am not sure if I have ever been this ready for a weekend in all of my life. So, so ready to jump into these next 2-3 days with a bang.

On the list...

Friday //
Meeting up with some girlfriends for a low-key birthday party celebration tonight. The birthday girl loves Jane Austen and anything chocolate, so we are snagging some tasty chocolate cuppies from Smallcakes Cupcakery and watching Austenland (it looks hilarious). Has anyone seen it?

Saturday //
I am also going to check out the venue I booked for Adam's 30th birthday and get my hair did. Later in the day, I am meeting up with Juju and Pops (my parents) for $1 margs at On the Border. Also, Target has been calling my name, so I am going to see if there is anything I can't live without, especially for our trip to Disney World next week! I desperately want that pink dress (below)!

Sunday //
I will be hanging out with my 4th grade rugrats at Sunday School that morning. Other than that, I fully plan on doing a little spring cleaning (wishful thinking?), taking the Beast on a walk, and just enjoying the beautiful weather.

Olympic Weekend + Cozy Couture Giveaway!

Happy Friday, y'all! Congrats, we made it through the week.
But I don't have anything to complain about with having Monday off and two snow days, but yesterday was a doozy (ha!).

So excited to be home for a weekend for the first time in a long time, and it's full of fun plans!

Friday //
We are heading to our dear friend Lauren's awesome Olympic themed birthday bash tonight! Everyone is dressing up in their best creative Olympic costumes, she made a bracket to host her own "Olympic Games" (darts, shuffleboard, etc.), and Moscow Mules are the drink of the evening. Isn't she clever?

Saturday //
I am planning on getting a nice little a.m. workout in, and then sipping my coffee while enjoying you of the delicious whole grain low sugar banana bread mini loaves I made last night (Thanks, SkinnyTaste!). Maybe I should finally take down  our Christmas tree (judge away, my friends, I probably deserve public shaming)!

Hubs and I are thrilled to spend the afternoon with my sister-in-law and brother-in-law who will be visiting from Boston, and we are pumper for a Fab Four reunion. I foresee lots of games, hot tub time, and catching up on life.

Sunday //
I can't wait to see my little 4th grade girly girls while teaching Sunday School. They are a huge blessing and I'm thankful for their innocent hearts and cute little personalities. The rest of the day will probably be spent over at my in-laws just relaxing and loving life.

...it should be a great weekend!

.:::.:::.:::.:::.:::.

And in honor of the Olympic Winter Games (and the copious amount of snow days this week), I am thrilled to giveaway one of my handmade Cozy Couture headwraps to a lucky one of you! I thought a pretty red one would be fitting as you cheer on our Team USA.

Check out the Rafflecopter below to enter! The grand prize winner will be announced next Thursday, and there are several ways you can gain points every single day drastically increasing your odds.

Can't wait to create this special headwrap for one of you! For more on Cozy Couture Headwraps, please check out my Etsy shop!

Good luck and GO USA!

Life of Meg has taken a little holiday hiatus.

BUT, I do have some great things heading your way when I get back to blogging next week, so please don't give up on me just yet! ;)

I know November/December posts have been less frequent than usual, but I think I just needed a little break to refresh and regroup. That being said, I couldn't be more excited for renewed motivation and some great posts are heading your way soon!

(yes, our first Christmas together ever!

From my little family to yours...
We hope you had a very Merry Christmas and look forward to a lovely New Year!

Cozy Weekend Outlook

Happy Friday, you sassy things!
I am sure you will join me in complete celebration now that the weekend is here!

I have so many fun plans for this weekend, and snow is on the horizon for Sunday/Monday. I am secretly hoping I get snowed in with Hubs and Bella Beast, so that I can crochet the day while watching Christmas movies.

A roaring fire, hot cocoa, and gingerbread cookies wouldn't hurt either!

// Weekend Outlook //

+ watch Carrie Underwood in Sound of Music (thank you, DVR!)
+ hang with my bestie who will be in town to Christmas shop with me
+ wrap Christmas gifts for the fam
+ hit up the local Bottoms Up small business weekend
+ brunch, brunch, brunch
+ continue my ever-growing Scandal addiction
+ make crockpot spiked apple cider
+ hang with my Sunday school 4th grade girlies

Time to Party Like We're 75

See that old lady?
Yup, that one. The one who looks ancient and has a sassy smirk?

That's going to be me tonight.

Believe it or not, I am having a geriatric themed birthday tonight and I couldn't be more pumped! Our crazy friends are coming over dressed like old fogies and we're going to have a ridiculously fun time living it up at the Evans casa.

Adam and I went a little crazy at Goodwill this past weekend - I almost peed my pants from laughter twice - so our granny and gramps outfits are set and ready to go. I am cracking up right now just thinking about how fun it will be.

We will have bingo, cards and snack time, which everyone knows is an elderly staple, of course. And then we're going to shake things up by blasting tunes from my childhood (hello BSB, Spice Girls, and Britney!) while my girlfriends and I dominate the old men at wine pong.

Don't worry, there will definitely be a ton of photos shared with you lovely people come next week.

Then I'm going to dress up like Katniss to go see Catching Fire on Saturday morning.

93% joking.
Good grief.

There is a really good chance I've consumed entirely too much coffee and am extremely hyper/jittery writing this post. Hollllaaaa!

{ What are you up to this weekend?}

In case you missed it...

Have a fantastic weekend, you old farts!

Have a Sassy Weekend!

Today simply makes me happy.

I have the day off.
I slept past 9 o'clock.
And I'm still in my PJs watching the Katy Perry documentary.

The weekend has begun, my friends.

I can't wait for my sweet hardworking hubby to get home tonight. We have minimal plans this weekend, and I am so ready to just spend time with him and our friends while we relax.

A few fun fall things on my radar that I would LOVE to do...

+ visit Louisburg Cider Mill for cider and donuts
+ go to the orchard for apple picking
+ pick a new trail to adventure on with the pup

What are you up to this weekend?
I hope you soak in the fabulous fall weather with your favorite people!

In case you missed it this week...

Hugs and smooches, you sassy peeps!

Let Bestie Weekend Commence!

See that sassy lady?

Yup, that's Lindsey.
My bestie.
She lives in Oklahoma.

Feel free to call her "Yins", "Yinsanator", or Linds if you'd like.. I don't think I've ever called her by her real name. :)

Isn't she stunning?

I met Linds at my very first big girl job when I lived in Oklahoma City and we clicked right away. Even though we only lived in the same city for 10 months, we developed an amazing friendship that we've kept up long distance for more than 4+ years now.

With a 5 hour gap keeping us apart, I am so ready for a reunion... and today's the day!
Adam and the dudes are hitting the road for a cabin weekend, which leaves us girls to party hardy.

Here's a little glimpse into our overly girly weekend...

.:::.:::.:::.:::.:::.

// Friday
I can't wait to bust out of here like a bat out of hell coem 5 p.m.! If it doesn't pour cats and dogs, I have a quick blog photo shoot, and then we're off to dinner on the town. Linds loves Blanc Burgers + Bottles, so we may have to go there.

Later tonight? Crafting, girl talk, Redbox, chocolate, and wine. Lots of wine.

// Saturday
Umm... sleeping in. Thank goodness that girl likes to sleep in - I'm le pooped! Once we roll around, we'll probably take Bella Beast on a super long walk or hit up my favorite Zumba class for a sweat sesh.

The afternoon will consist of a gross amount of outlet shopping (we've been know to cause serious damage), baking for my big girls night party, and crafting!

Saturday night, all the girls are coming over to my casa for a Favorite Things Party (recap next week!) - I can't wait! I've been working on lots of cute crafts, decor, and party favors!

// Sunday
Since we go to evening church, we may hit up the theater for a super cheap morning movie or head to brunch somewhere sassy.

.:::.:::.:::.:::.:::.

More than anything, I can't wait to just catch up, relax, and enjoy how effortless and easy it is to be around such a beautiful friend. Love her and can't wait to see what kind of shenanigans we get ourselves into!

What are you girls up to this weekend??

PS - I totally lied about posting my kitchen renovation! Dues to rainy weather and poor kitchen natural light this week, I plan to post next week! Stay tuned!!

July 12, 2013

5 Things

Do you ever feel like your weeks seem infinitely longer after a vacation?

Yup, that's this week.

I spent 4 glorious days disconnected from all social media, lounging around, and eating way too much junk food. So as you can imagine, jumping back into a full-blown craz-cray work week was quite the shock to my system.

Needless to say, I am beyond ready for a leisurely weekend... hollatchagirl!

1//  Holy Remodel!
Beyond excited to show you progress on out kitchen makeover. Making HUGE progress! Despite the super sexy 1970's mustard yellow counter tops still in place, the freshly painted cabinets/walls and new hardware have our place looking snazzy! Next up... granite, sink and back splash! Photos coming next week... stay tuned.

2//  Sneaky Girl
While hubs was out of town on business, I spent every single evening painting our guest bathroom (which would've been our weekend project). Poor guy has been working so hard, so i wanted to surprise him with a relaxing weekend. Needless to say, he was pumped (or as pumped as someone can be after traveling all day and finally getting home at 1:30 a.m.). Wife points for the win!

3//  I. Need. Sleep.
I don't know why, but every time he's out of town I stay up until midnight or later doing the most ridiculous things (like painting our dimly-lit guest bathroom). This weekend will be full of naps, naps and more naps. These dark circles sure don't lie.

4//  Cultural Weekend Adventures
Tonight we are catching the latest installment of the Starlight Music Theater season... FLASHDANCE!
Never seen the movie. Have no clue what it's about, but I've heard that everyone you look is Broadway singers in the world's tightest spandex. Good thing we have close-up orchestra seats! ;)

Heading out to the KC City Market farmer's market tomorrow morning with the parents. I fully plan on indulging in some locally brewed coffee, fresh wild flowers, tons of produce, and perhaps I will browse the delicious homemade goods that the sweet Amish folks tempt me with.

5// A Million Trillion Thank Yous

I had so many overly kind comments, e-mails, and tweets about Wednesdays post, Embracing Imperfection. Those words came from my heart, and it's such a blessing to know I am not the only one out there who struggles with this. Beyond thankful that it provided encouragement to those of you in the same boat - xoxox!

In Case You Missed It...

What are you kids up to this weekend?

Make it a good one!

And We're Off!

Well, my bags are packed, Bella Beast has been shipped off to hang with Poppy and Juju (aka: her grandparents // aka: my parental units), and my love and I are ready to hit the road.

A Starbucks stop and a bathroom break 45 minutes in is inevitable.
Thank goodness Hubs is an insanely laid back guy!

We have lots of fun places researched, and we can't wait to adventure (and EAT!) our way through it. Stay tuned via Instagram (social media buttons are in the top right corner) to see the sites.

I'm just thrilled that we can go on our first weekender as a newly married couple. I think I have a vacation addiction problem and will probably be attending Vacationing Anonymous when I get back...

" Hi, my name is Meg, and I'm addicted to the Rocky Mountains, Hawaii, and not being at home."
"Hiiii Meg."

Anywho, I'm sure I'll have a full report for you next week (if I decide to ever come back home!!)

Cheers to the Weekend!

Cheers to the Weekend

Friday.

Can I get a big ol' amen for that one?

I woke up this morning swearing up and down that it was Saturday.
Umm, cruel trick, world. Cruel cruel trick.

But don't you worry, I snapped to it pretty quickly. There is something about Friday that puts me in the best mood ever. I'm ready for refreshing cocktails, relaxing, and spending time with friends!

A few things...

1) So I wore patriotic colors and kicked it with the Governor at my office yesterday. Hung out with his secret service. You know, a usual Thursday.
JK! Details to come next week!

2) Ridiculously excited to check out First Fridays in the Crossroads district tonight. This plan has been in the works for quite some time... I mean I've lived here for 4 years and still haven't been! Cool art, incredible people watching, and indulging in the local food truck cuisine.

3) So this song has been playing on repeat since literally last night at 11 p.m. (my impromptu PJ dance party). God bless my poor husband.

4) Can't get enough of running lately! I crave being outdoors with the wind in my hair and sunshine on my face. Our weather here in KC has been so perfect for logging some miles on my favorite trails. It's better than craving my usual peanut butter, eh? ;)

5) Cannot wait to try this easy ice cream recipe and this springtime cocktail recipe ASAP. And did I mention today is National Donut Day? Yum.

.:::.:::.:::.:::.:::.

What are you crazy cats up to this weekend?

Cheers to the weekend, lovelies!

PS - Sephora giftcard and Life of Meg ad space giveaway still going on until Sunday!!

May 31, 2013

Here's to Weekend Adventures

Congratulations, you guys. Someway, somehow we survived what seemed like the world's longest short week ever.

Just me?
A little pathetic, I know.

But, this constantly rainy weather has me dragging! In fact, I am begging for a steady IV drip of caffeine over here to make it through one more productive work day.

Thankfully the weekend starts the second my jeep rolls out of the parking garage at 5 p.m. (or 4:54 p.m. if we're being honest here...), and hopefully my tire squeals don't give away that I am so ready to not be in the office. Haha :)

Looking forward to a glorious few days full of sleeping in and fun. Kicking the weekend off right tonight in artsy fartsy style. Yep, we're hitting up Kansas City's legendary Starlight Theater to catch Spamalot with my in-laws.

Isn't the theater stunning?

It's twice as gorgeous in person and absolutely looks like you're in a castle when you see the 360 degree view from your seat. We went in on season tickets this year, so I am beyond excited to see Catch Me If You Can, Flash Dance, and The Little Mermaid (!!!) to name a few.

Then tomorrow morning we are hitting up two amazing sales with friends, one at the famous Nell Hills store for their annual tent sale. And then off to Boulevard Brewery's massive "garage sale" so hubs can pick up some sweet beer memorabilia and signs for the man cave (plus the money goes to help OK tornado victims, so it's a win-win!).

We're spending the evening on Saturday just chilling with The Lumineers at Buzz Under the Starz concert. Love them, so we are beyond pumped for a great concert. What a fun weekend full of summery plans!
