Guest Post: Katie @ The Small Change Project

Hi, I'm Katie from The Small Change Project!

I met my husband Adam in baptism class. Yes that's right. In baptism class. Obviously I don't remember that moment, but we "met" again in 5th grade. I still don't remember that, but I do remember our years in Middle School together. He was an outgoing leader who liked to pick on me a lot. He wasn't my favorite person because his confidence made me nervous.

In 8th grade he was not at all on my radar. Until one day my friend passed me a note in study hall (keep in mind that we are only 14) that said "Adam thinks you're cute." In my mind I replied with OH MY GOD I LOVE HIM! But I kept my cool and replied in a tiny note back to my friend, "I think he's cute too." And really the rest is history. Our first date was the 8th grade formal and we officially started dating 2 days later. We have been together ever since.

By the time we started talking about marriage it wasn't that big of a deal. We both new we were going to spend our lives together and now it was just a formality. After 7 1/2 years together he managed to surprise me with his proposal.

We began the wedding planning process which was made much more difficult by the fact that at that same moment in time we were graduating from college, planning a month long back packing trip through Europe and arranging for our relocation from Minnesota to Louisiana. The wedding really took a back seat because it just didn't seem like a big deal compared to everything else that was going on.

We were engaged 10 months and the entire time I really down played the wedding and our future marriage in my mind. After all how different could it be? We already knew each other so well. We moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana in August and our wedding was in October.

So we even had a few months to figure out how to coexist peacefully. By the time October 10th rolled around I was seeing this whole she-bang as more of a nuisance than anything. We had to fly back to Minnesota, get married and fly back in less than a week.

The night before our wedding brought on something we had not expected. Snow! I had checked the Farmer's Almanac for the 100 year history of October 10th and never saw any snow. It has predictably been in the 70's for years. We have a pattern of bringing oddities and natural disasters wherever we go. (The BP oil spill happened when we lived in Louisiana and the largest wild fire in american history happened when we lived in New Mexico and that's only the short list.)

So this snow was worrisome, but nothing we couldn't handle. Unfortunately the next day dipped into the 30's and we had a white wedding. Literally. We had to make do, but for the first time, I was really excited about this wedding thing. Before I walked down to see Adam for the first time I actually choked up. Me! The non-cryer started tearing up. I walked down to my soon-to-be husband and he looked miraculous! I don't know how to describe it, but honestly it was as if the love was just pouring out of him.

We both cried during the ceremony. I remember this overwhelming feeling of "Finally! I am united with my soulmate. We are one." We walked to the back of the church as everyone clapped and we both broke down. We held each other's faces in our hands, looked into each other's eyes and for a very brief moment the world was perfect. We were married after 8 1/2 years together. Now we could start our lives. Nothing else mattered, but that very moment.

We spent the rest of the evening within an arms reach as we danced the night away. And that's where I'll stop describing the details of the night. ;) The next morning we woke up as husband and wife already late for our gift opening. We made a mad rush to get there and once it all settled down again I noticed something. I felt different. I actually felt married.

I know some of this was that honeymoon phase and the lovey-dovey-ness of the day, but I really did feel different. I looked at this man who had been my boyfriend for so long and now saw my husband. That meant something to us and it all felt different. The feeling was short lived, because Adam caught the nasty flu bug that was going around. We managed to get his sick self back to Louisiana to start our life together, but that feeling didn't go away. Just 2 months into it this is how I described my new husband.

We have now been together almost 12 years and married for 3. I've had many people ask me about our relationship since it's not common to start dating at 14. And oddly enough I've had a lot of people ask me my view on marriage. They ask if it is any different than when we were dating. And every single time I can give them a confident. Yes!

Yes it is different. It's harder, more wonderful, more lively, more secure and more amazing than our dating life ever was. But the biggest and most awesome part of being married is looking over at him during our hardest times and our best times knowing that he will be with me forever. It gives me so much strength. No matter what life throws our way we know that we will always have each other. And THAT is why marriage feels so different.

Congratulations Meg! You are about to know exactly what I'm talking about.
If this wasn't mushy enough for you check out these three posts. 10 Years, 11 Years, 3 Years Down.

Guest Post: Rachel @ Simple Little Joys

Hey, all you Life of Meg girls! It's Rachel here, from {simple.little.joys}!

I'm super thrilled, excited, and overjoyed to be over here today while Meg is enjoying her wonderful honeymoon! I can only imagine how much fun they're having, soaking up the sun and loving being married! We miss you, Meg, but we're so happy for you and Adam!

Well, with Meg on a beautiful beach, I've been dreaming about a beach getaway myself. As soon as we get the first glimpse of Spring, I start obsessively checking Victoria's Secret for the summer's cutest swim suit. And we all know, the moment swim suit season comes near, we all start working a little harder on our bikini bod!

Can't you just imagine being on a beach like this? Just looking at that crystal blue water makes me want to get myself in tip top bikini shape!

Source: weheartit.com via Breanne on Pinterest

I don't know about you, but I know how I am--I'll start off my bikini beach bod challenge strong and stay that way for a few weeks, but then my motivation starts to taper off after a little while. I'll make an excuse about a girl's weekend or being too tired from work--and we all know we can't look like Adriana Lima by sitting on the couch with a bag of Cheetos. So I've been thinking lately on how to keep myself motivated, even when my motivation is less than stellar.

So what does it take to get motivated and stay that way, even when the going gets tough?

First off, pick a goal. Pick something to aim towards, and stick with it. If you start trying to lose weight or get in shape with no end in sight, it'll seem like the same thing every day, day after day. What works for me? Sign up for a 5K a few months from now. Buy a bikini that you LOVE and hang it up in your closet. Give yourself something to work towards and it'll make it seem so much easier!

Second, find a work out/diet buddy. The buddy system isn't just for elementary kids on a field trip, girlfriends--having a "partner" through this journey will keep you on track and also give you someone to talk to daily. I have a few of these and just knowing they're cheering me on makes me want to push myself a little further (or just put down that doughnut!)

Stay positive. Negativity doesn't belong anywhere near us, girls! Don't be too hard on yourself. You've gotta be your biggest supporter, not your worst enemy. Comparison only steals your joy, so be kind to yourself.

Skip the scale on a daily basis. Pick one day a week and let that be "weigh in" day. The daily fluctuations of the scale will knock my motivation quicker than anything else--once a week is just enough to give you an accurate picture of what's going on, pound wise.

Make an awesome playlist to use when working out. My runs/gym time go by in a blink when I'm listening to an album that pump me up! Some of my favorites lately: Bruno Mars, Gotye, and Justin Bieber--trust me, they've got a good beat.

One of my favorite ways to get pumped up? Change up your work outs. Don't get so bored with your usual routine that you talk yourself out of doing it. Swim. Take a spin class with friends. Go play tennis. Sign up for Zumba. The options are endless, and by changing it up, you'll keep it fun and entertaining!

Last, but not least...reward yourself. Celebrate pounds lost. For instance, with each 3, 5, or 10 pounds (depending on your goal, of course,) give yourself a little pat on the back with a celebratory new pair of shoes, workout top, or even just a little ice cream treat! Of course, it doesn't have to be a monetary gift, but a little treat every now and then will give you a little boost in your motivation!

Source: confident-beautiful-motivated.tumblr.com via Aspen on Pinterest

And more than anything--remember, all you pretty ladies...success isn't about the amount of pounds lost. It's about the way you feel, the confidence you have in yourself, and the glow from within! Believe you're beautiful and have confidence in yourself, and everything else will fall into place.

Now let's all get motivated to make a difference in ourselves, shall we?

Thanks for having me, Meg! I think I speak for everyone when I say we can't wait to hear all about how fabulous the honeymoon was!

I just wanted to pop in one last time before I become a married woman and dance the night away tomorrow! After the big day, Adam is whisking me off to Antigua for a wonderfully relaxing honeymoon.

I am estimating the consumption of at least 12 piƱa coladas... and that's just Adam's! :) Bring on the fruity umbrella drinks with no shame!!

Meet the Ladies: {March}

Looking for some great new blogs to discover?

Well boy howdy, do I have to introduce you to some very special blog ladies! These gal pals have rocking blogs full of great photos, fun stories, and posts that will real you in.. trust me.

You definitely need to take a second and go say hello!
Never underestimate how you can boost someone's day by a sweet comment.
So, let me introduce you to some of blog land's finest! Just for giggles, I asked them to share some of their deepest, darkest guilty pleasures...

Enjoy!

Guilty Pleasures?
My guilty pleasures of course my boyfriend. Haha. Haha but really. We are long distance so when ever we see each other there's a lot of kisses, hugs, cuddles. Then I love me some movies. I love all types my movies take up 3 drawers in my college room. I also love me ice cream.

Guilty Pleasures?
I'm addicted to TV - again! After months of being too busy to watch TV, I'm enjoying lots of time off work where I watch reality TV on E!, entire seasons of Glee, and the entire series (so far) of Bunheads. I can't get enough of the quick wit and the ridiculous lives that people live.

Guilty Pleasures?
Right now my guilty pleasure is watching episodes of The Mary Tyler Moore Show on Hulu.
I used to watch it as a kid and now I love seeing the styles of fashion and comedy again. It's even more fun
since I live in Minnesota where the show was filmed. I love escaping to her life for an hour each night.

Guilty Pleasures?
Where do I start? Well, honestly, they all have men's names... Edward Cullen, Ben & Jerry, Chuck Bass... perhaps a little Jack Daniels at times. :) Non guilty pleasures? Spoiling my little poodle baby with all my heart!

Guilty Pleasures?
I would have to say a bag of hot cheetos, anything on Bravo (especially Vanderpump Rules as of late), and really hot bubble baths would have to be on that list. And Starbucks. That's a guilty pleasure I indulge myself in daily.

Guilty Pleasures?
TV show The Vampire Diaries. It's so ridiculous - but I soak up every second of it. Oooo steamy vampire men! And I'm slightly addicted to the game Tiny Tower on my iPad.

Guilty Pleasures?
Edy's slow churned butter pecan ice cream, all the Real Housewives Franchises, Beyond the Rack, room service.

I bet you can relate to some of these guilty pleasures. I mean, I absolutely cannot - in any way, shape or form - relate to their love of trashy reality TV, Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia FroYo, or completely spoiling my dog.

Does anyone believe me?

Okay.. I'm the world's worse liar. This blonde has some crazy vices! :)

Thanks for stopping  by, lovies!
Go show these girls some blog love, mmkay?

Wedding Week Adventures

Well ain't that the truth.

It most certainly is time to be toasting and doing the macarena on the table tops! I am beyond thrilled that the big week is here, and I'm kind of blown away by so many friends/family's texts, calls, emails, and facebook messages wishing us a beautiful week.

It seems to be working well, because I am as cool and calm as a cucumber and ready to get married to the love of my life o Saturday!

I know many brides kind  start to unravel a bit the closer to the big day they get, and rightfully so. There are a million details to look after and people to coordinate, but I feel like we did a good job preparing. Now it;s just time to sit back, relax, and take in every sweet moment.

And hey... at the end of the night, if we end up married to each other, I would say it's a win-win! Everything else is just a cherry on top in my book... and I have a feeling like there are going to be a bowl full of cherries!

So anyway, here we are. I have the week off, and we have fun stuff to do!

Future hubby and I are headed out to heaven knows where to pick up our marriage license today. Since we're getting married in the cutest little town outside of KC, we have to go to that county office to snag our official papers... even if they're an hour away.

But don't you worry, we're going to make a fun little roadtrip out of it. Eat at a fun place, turn-up the radio, and just enjoy the ride.

Other To Do's (Today):

+ sweat sesh at the gym
+ work on wedding table numbers
+ organize decor
+ Zumba with my posse
+ DVR
+ face mask / bubble bath

Not too shabby!

Much more wedding fun (and behind the scenes photos!) coming this week. Not to mention, I have some AMAZING guest bloggers lined up to take over while I'm MIA in Antigua!

Thanks for your love, your sweet/encouraging comments, and just being great friends during a very happy time. It takes very special people to share in your joy and be happy with you.

Experienced brides out there... any advice for little ol' me?

Single Digits + Guest Bloggers Needed

Happy Friday, Lovelies!
I stopped by our wedding venue with my parents over the noon hour to see how everything looks when it's snow covered, because let's face it...

When your city gets 25 inches of snow in a week, you will have snow on the ground for your big day.

Although I would've loved green leaves and warm weather, it looks like Mother Nature had other plans.
But you know what? I am totally okay with it.

So pretty, right?

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if there is snow.
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what my scale says.
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if everything is perfect...

Because I get to marry my best friend.

What could possibly ruin that joy?

We're in single digits, people! Get excited, because I know I am! :)

Snow Day {again} + A Facelift

{via}

What a cozy day here in Kansas City!
Snow day #3 has commenced, the trees look like they are coated in a nice dusting of powdered sugar, and I'm loving every. single. second.

After I heard the news this morning, I went back to bed to enjoy an abundance of cozy snoozing. I heard Adam shoveling the driveway 30 minutes later, so I decided to burn some calories by lending my massive muscles to the effort.

What would he do without me? ;)

Now I'm curled up in front of the fire just working away on my slouchy beanie crochet project. We have a movie marathon going on in the background and a bottomless pot of coffee warming.

Happy girl.

Are you snowed in too?

I think one of our best friends may try to make his way over here to relax with us this afternoon! We have a crockpot full of chili slow cooking in the kitchen, and a mountain full of snow just begging to be turned into a snow man. Or a snow woman?

Heck, we could make a whole snow family with the 20+ inches on the ground!

Looking forward to a relaxing day in my jammies just knocking out wedding thank yous (blah!), and chilling with The Hogwarts crew (yup, HP 1 down already!).

.:::.:::.:::.:::.

...And did you notice anything new around here?

I got a little bit of a facelift...
What do you think?

The lovely Joelle is the creative genius behind the new look and I'm just in love! I had a blast working with her, and she absolutely delivered the clean, modern, cheerful look I was wanting!

And talk about affordable! If you're looking for a new design that won't cost you your right arm and unborn first child, she's your gal!

{thanks, Joelle!}

Wishing you a cozy day, lovelies!

Mingle Monday Blog Hop!

Happy Monday to all of you!
After the blizzard tore through Kansas City on Thursday and left 15 inches, I'm coming off of a 4 day weekend - yahoo! And just in case we didn't get enough snow, we're expecting blizzard #2 to dump about 11 inches on the ground by the end of tomorrow.

I think it's safe to say there will be snow on the ground for our big day - ha!

Anyway, my Monday is off to a hellacious start already. And I am still a tad under the weather. Thank goodness I will be *hopefully* getting an almost guaranteed snow day tomorrow, which simple means more Downton Abbey marathons! ;)

Link-up and enjoy, friends!

Snowed In

Greetings from snow-laden Kansas City!
Fifteen inches of snow on Thursday made for two incredibly awesome snow days. I spent Thursday at Adam's house (soon to be our home - weird!).

We had a fun and super productive snow day, and it was just what we needed. It feels good to have so much done and now we can relax this weekend!

Started the day off with coffee and chocolate chip pancakes
(the way every morning should start out)...

... and received our cute little love birds wedding cake topper in the mail...

The entire afternoon was spent moving furniture and getting rooms put together. We received the gorgeous Crate and Barrel bedding on our registry from my wonderful parents, and a fluffy C&B brown quilt from our good friends.

Waiting on the matching brown euro shams (hoping to be gifted them at the wedding!), and we're in the market for some super cute lamps.

It's slowly coming together!

Today has been great so far, and much more relaxing. Did a few wedding projects this morning while Adam was out shoveling the driveway... for 2 hours. What a trooper!

I made melty grilled cheese sandwiches, and a nice big pot of tomato roasted garlic bisque to warm him up when he was done.

Now, I have the afternoon to myself, and I plan on diving into Downton Abbey, season 1. FINALLY!

Hope your weekend is off to a great start!
...stay tuned next week for the debut of my new blog design (so excited!!).

Life Lately in Photos + Sneak Peek

Life has been pretty crazy fun lately!
There is so much going on and tons of fun photos/stories to share lately. I can't believe I haven't been keeping you up-to-date... bad Meg! And when did I start talking in 3rd person?

Anyway... brace yourself for quite the slew of randomness, but there is a BIG secret/surprise at the very end. Totally worth it, or at least I like to think so.

Don't worry friends, just in case you don't follow me on Instagram or Twitter, I have the prime time scoop just for you...

...including a wedding dress sneak peek (!!)

Dang it.
I can't keep secrets very well...

1// Thank you kisses.
2// Hello new iPad!
3// Adam's drink... and I got a Coors Light... (haha!)
4// Sassy Love Day polka dot tights.

So Valentine's Day (or Love Week, as I like to celebrate for 7 days straight) was a fun little whirlwind! We typically don't do anything too extravagant and don't do gifts. We prefer to spend money on an experience and focus on celebrating how much love we're blessed with.

We love to rotate what we do every year, and take turns planning. Last V-day, we went to a nice gourmet dinner at Cafe Trio on the Plaza, and this year we stayed in, cooked dinner, drank wine...

...and then Adam surprised me with an iPad.
No big deal.

 { Wait, what? }

Yup.
He completely blew me away by generously gifting me an iPad to encourage how much I love to blog.

On a whim.
Just because.

Blown. Away.
{and slightly addicted to my new gadget already!}

I made fudgey heart-shaped brownies that were so tasty, several people asked for my recipe...

...and then I showed them a photo of
the Betty Crocker Chocolate Chunk Brownie Mix box.

Which simply goes to show that if you make things look pretty, and plop them on a nice plate, you can fool anyone. ;)

{I can't pretend to be Martha Stewart all the time, people!}

1// Make-up trial w/ fabulous fake eyelashes.
2// Enjoying lots of sunset runs.
3// "A lifetime of happiness lies ahead of you." {yup!}
4// Our super cute custom guest book print.

Life is going well and we can hardly believe the big day is 17 days away. I can honestly say I am not stressed out at all (which is the best feeling ever), and can focus on enjoying the moments.

Can I just say, we are complete and utter weirdos...

If anyone witnessed the chaos of text messages and emoticons between future hubs and me, they would bring us straight to the nut house.

I guess the good news is at least we get each other. That way I don't have to be loony all by myself.

Right?
Anybody?

Meet me furry little nephew, Zeus!

Yup, broski got a Husky/German Shepherd puppy who is an insane little ball of energy and way too cute!

Beast loves playing with him... as long as he refrains from trying to make babies with her randomly. In the middle of the living room. In front of the whole fam.

...get what I'm saying?

*sigh*

...boys...

I feel gorgeous in my dress, and can't wait to show you more!
17 days... 17 days... 17days...

Coming tomorrow... my awesome (SALE!) shopping finds as of late!

And stay tuned for Friday... my new blog design arrives!! Cannot WAIT to show you all of the amazing work Joelle @ Something Charming has done. I'm in love.
