Broadway Junkie

What an amazing weekend!
The state fair was an absolute blast (more to come later!). We capped off an amazing weekend by heading out to the gorgeous Starlight Theatre to see...

RAIN: A Tribute to the Beatles.

{ Amazing musical! }

The 4 cast members looked exactly like the dynamic band of the past and we had a great time grooving to the beats with BF's parents!

RAIN was the culminating event for the 2010 Starlight musical season. After the wonderful performance, they invited us to take their 2011 survey to help them decide next summer's 5 muscials.

My 5 Choices:

- The Addams Family
- Billy Elliot the Musical
- Come Fly Away (I love Frank Sinatra!!)
- Disney's The Little Mermaid
- Mamma Mia!

The Addams Family just swept the 2010 Tony's, so I think it would be amazing to see. The dance performance and choreography in Billy Elliot has me completely intrigued, and I would love the Sinatra music of Come Fly Away. As for Little Mermaid, it's my favorite movie and I love Mammia Mia.

There was also a section where you could type in any other musicals you'd like to see. Number one pick... Jersey Boys!

{ What would your top choices be? }

Happy Monday Lovelies!

  5. First of all, Rain was so great! I saw it this past spring when it came through Wichita. I'm not usually a fan of jukebox musicals (Rain, All Shook Up, Mamma Mia, etc...) but this one was soooo good. I'm glad you enjoyed it too!

    My ideal choice would be Aida, In the Heights, The Little Mermaid, Chess, and Next to Normal.

    However - the problem with the shows still running on Broadway (Addams Family, Lion King, In the Heights, Memphis, Next to Normal...) is that they won't release the rights for them. A show has to be closed before the rights are released. So unfortunately, it'll be a while till you can see Addams Family outside of NY (unless it's the national tour).

    Aida is absolutely amazing and it's one of the few CDs that I can listen to beginning to end without skipping any tracks. SO GOOD.

    In the Heights is a fun show to get up and dance to. "96,000" is one song I cannot get enough of!

    Next to Normal is my current favorite show. If you haven't listened to it, you need to. It's a darker show but it's really gripping and real.

    Chess is one of my favorites but you HAVE to listen to the concert version (with Josh Groban, Adam Pascal, and Idina Menzel). The original cast recording just pales in comparison. I recommend "Nobody's Side", "Pity the Child", and "Anthem" but the large ensemble numbers are absolutely PHENOMENAL as well.

    It's really hard to get the rights for Mermaid and Xanadu because they just closed on Broadway recently but Music Theatre of Wichita is doing them both this summer if you want to check them out! The other problem with Disney shows is that they are really really select with who they'll let perform them. (Example: when they first released the stage version of High School Musical, they only allowed 7 theaters around the nation to do it. They are currently only letting 2 theaters do Mermaid and MTW is one of them!)

    I wish Legally Blonde was on this list. It would definitely be a write-in for me. If you like the movie, you need to listen to the original cast recording and I'm pretty sure you can watch the live version that MTV recorded on Youtube. It's such a fun, upbeat musical and it always gets me in a better mood!

  8. If I still lived in KC and could go to Starlight, I'd love to have a season pass for the following:

    The Addams Family
    Blue Man Group
    Cinderella (Rodgers and Hammerstein)
    Disney’s Little Mermaid
    Disney’s Tarzan (with music by Phil Collins)
    The King and I (starring Lou Diamond Phillips)
    Mary Poppins
    Peter Pan (starring Cathy Rigby)

    I miss KC... :( I envy you!
    Well, I don't miss the humidity in the summer, but miss many other things from home. ;)
