Our Wedding Featured on Brides.com

Today is a very special day.
Our wedding is the feature story on Brides magazine online today!

You can only imagine my excitement when I found out our wedding was officially published and online for the world to see.

The amazing people at Brides reached out to me last fall asking to do a feature piece on our wedding, photographed by our dear friend, the lovely Sharaya Mauck. I had so much fun working with them to help capture the special details of our big day, and to relive it all over again is so much fun!

For more details on our wedding and to catch the whole feature, go visit Brides.com for the full scoop!

I just wanted to thank the great staff at Brides and Sharaya for making this come to life. Thanks so much for reliving our joy with us.

If you are in the KC area and are looking for a photographer, Sharaya Mauck Photography is by far the best in the biz... go visit her site for more gorgeous photos!

Eeek... is this real?

Wedding Shower In Photos

Ever since my first wedding shower a few weeks ago...
I've been dying to get the photos taken back from my dear friend Megan. She recently got a fancy new camera and so graciously decided to test it out at the party. Love her.

The CD of photos arrived this weekend, so I'm excited to share with you.

Let me paint a picture of how creative and wonderful the hostesses were. Everything was completely decked out in gorgeous decorations.

The dainty lemon poppy seed muffins were showcased on the prettiest yellow glass cake stands (must find some!), and the photos they requested of Adam and I were displayed in the most creative ways. They even gave us the frames after the party! What a nice surprise - they're so gorgeous!

Not a detail was left unnoticed, and I felt so blessed that my mom's best friends wanted to throw me a shower.

And everyone was incredibly generous. We got a beautiful group gift of our china and place settings (shown in photos below) as well as so many other nice gifts.

We are so blessed and so grateful.

Our super cute Kate Spade china.

The shower was set-up beautifully!

 Besties since elementary school.

Gorgeous personal touches.

Me and my sissy!

Loving on my little cousin Devyn and Auntie Sheryl.

The generous hostesses, mom & me!

Wasn't my first bridal shower so stunning? I am still blown away by how crafty, unique and fancy everything was! I had the best time, and I am still working on finishing up the thank yous (that's how generous everyone was!).

And a very special thank you to my dear friend, Megan, for taking such lovely photos.

You've given me the gift of reliving beautiful, special memories, and I appreciate it so much!

Weren't her photos gorgeous, y'all?

She's been tossing around the dream of opening her own photography business, and I think she'd be so great at it! That lady is one crafty, artsy gal.
Welp, I hoped you enjoyed the little sneak peek from my shower! Much more to come this week - stay tuned!

A Beautiful Day in Photos

Just glancing through my future sister-in-law's wedding photos and fell in love. Their photographers, Paper Antler, did such an incredible job. What stunning photos to help us always remember the magic that was November 3rd.

Here are a few of my favorites from their big day...

The chapel they got married in was so gorgeous!

Isn't Meredith a stunning bride? So cute.

Aww... love that guy.

My future fam :)

We were aisle buddies - so fun!

That's our little flower girl, Lauren.

Just looking back at all of them makes me relive such a beautiful day that was. I sure love my future family, and I am so happy we all got to celebrate them together.

Family Wedding Weekend + Photos

Many of you who follow me around on Twitter know last week was crazy for me, but so fun! My amazing, (soon to be) sister-in-law, Meredith, got married to the love of her life and had the most beautiful wedding!

I was thrilled beyond belief to celebrate with her all week, and I am so thankful I got time off work to be a helpful bridesmaid! I tried my very best to behave myself.... ;)

I have to say, the majority of people at her wedding are obviously coming to ours in March, and I got really excited. Hands down, I am marrying into such an amazing family and love my in-laws to death. I feel very, very blessed to able to say that.

They were gracious enough to extend the invite to my family, and I love that everyone gets along well and we all enjoy each other so much. Is this real life?

Here are a few shots from an amazing, unforgettable weekend...

Future hubs is way too handsome, not even going to lie about it...

Some of my absolute favorite boys.

My future mother-in-law and father-in-law - I sure love them!

The beautiful bride (isn't her rehearsal dress stunning?) and her groom with his parents.

Some of the wedding party at the lovely rehearsal dinner. Coolest wine cellar ever!

Little bride after receiving her wedding gift from her hubby.

A few cell phone shots that I stole from my FB friends! :) Isn't Meredith beautiful?

The perfect fall wedding - can't wait to share the professional photos when they come out!

{sorry about the narrow blog margins! They're making the photos a little loopy looking... }

Dear "Little Bride" (Meredith),

I couldn't possibly ask for a more loving, fun sister-in-law. Not only am I thrilled to call you my official sister in a few months, but I'm thankful you also are a wonderful best friend. I love that we have SO much in common, and that you inspire me to be a better person each and everyday.
What a joy it is to have you and Kyle in my life, and I can't wait to see what our adventures hold! We're sure looking forward to the day where you guys can be our bee keeper neighbors, and our little redheaded babies can all play together. Wishing you the most beautiful Belize honeymoon, and a lifetime of inspiring adventures together.

Love you very much!

Yup, I am blessed beyond measure. I wish I could've snapped a few photos with my family at the reception, but we were all too busy breakin' it down Porter style!

I've got to admit that seeing such an amazing big day gave me butterflies for the first time in a while. 4 months to go, and it's going by so fast! :)

Our Engagement Photos

After showing you guys a sneak peek of our engagement photos, I have been really excited to show you the rest of our favorites! Your comments were so sweet, and we're just really excited to have beautiful photos that capture how much we love each other.

I cannot even begin to tell you how much we enjoy our photographer, Sharaymauck Photography. She is such a sweetheart with clever, unique ideas.

When we told her we would love photos that really show our relaxed personalities and how much we love being outside, she gave us just that!

We love how they turned out!!

Isn't that man super handsome? I sure think so! And no, we definitely didn't plan on getting photo bombed by a horse at the barn... but that surprise sure turned out cute. He followed us around the whole time - haha!

Dying to hear what your faves are!
We can't decide! :)

Let's Get Real...

For a while now, I have been thinking about sharing my heart with you all about weight loss. I have had tons and tons of e-mails/tweets asking me about my healthy living journey... particularly now that I will be in a gorgeous fitted wedding dress on March 9th.

Let me take you back to give you a little life snapshot...
Growing up, I was a junk food addict. I loved sugary treats and processed snacks more than most kids. I first remember realizing I was overweight toward the end of middle school, but didn't really know how to change my eating habits.

Once I reached high school, I happily danced on the pom team performing in front of the whole school at pep rallies and games in spandex and leotards. Suddenly body conscious, I turned to advice from my mom to get healthy.

We did Weight Watchers together and I feel for the first time in my life, portion sizes and eating healthy foods made sense. I changed my eating habits, learned to love working out, and easily dropped 30 lbs.

This weight loss carried me through the rest of high school and college, with natural fluctuations. Upon getting my first big girl job, I slowly learned how to re-work healthier habits and activity into a busy schedule.

I feel like I definitely know what to do and how to get there, it's just a matter of not being lazy and choosing healthier foods/exercise over convenience.

____________________________________________

Unfortunately, my weight took a big turn in the winter of 2011. After months of testing and feeling horrible, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. This disease makes me feel extremely achey, lethargic, and some days I just feel like I have the flu.

In order to manage this disease, my rheumatologist put me on steroid treatments for 3-4 months. Within no time at all, I had rapidly gained 30 lbs. on this medication. For the first time in 8-9 years, I felt extremely self-conscious and helpless.

The medication was in my system for several months after choosing to discontinue those treatments, and it definitely had a strong effect on my metabolism and thyroid function.

Luckily, a year later, I am finally able to lose weight again... I just hadn't planned on being a bride while in the midst of it.

Thankfully, I have a very sweet, encouraging, and supportive fiance who has been my gym buddy, healthy meal advocate, and makes me feel very beautiful at any size. With encouragement from my doctor, family, and friends, my metabolism is finally back to normal, and resorting back to lifestyle changes has led me to drop 12 lbs. so far!

With the help of Weight Watchers keeping my accountable and providing a very structured and stable way to lose weight again, I am slowly seeing results and feeling like myself again!!

At my highest weight last year, I weighed close to 188 lbs, and felt extremely lost. The clothes I wore when I was 160 lbs. no longer fit me, and I desperately wanted to feel like "me" again. At my healthiest and most active state, I was comfortable right around 145 lbs., and I am slowly working my way back to feeling strong and confident.

Am I losing weight just for the wedding?
Nope. This is all about a healthy lifestyle change I made years ago, and want to return to my norm after a tough year and a half of struggling with my body image.

Is the wedding a good motivator?
Absolutely!
What bride doesn't want to feel stunning in her dress and completely confident? On days when I don't want to gym it up, I think about how beautiful my wedding dress is. The way Adam will look at me when I walk down the isle, and how I don't even want to have a worry in the world of how my body looks on the big day. It's all about feeling like myself again.

____________________________________________

With exactly 29 weeks until the big day, and 25 weeks until dress alterations, I feel like I can easily get back to my normal with a weight loss of 1 - 1.5 lbs. a week.

On the days where I want to skip an easy elliptical date or indulge on the sweet treats the office girls like to share, I have to remind myself, "I can do this!"

I thought today was a good day to share a piece of my heart and struggle with all of you who may be in the same boat as me. I think there are a few things every girl who struggles with this needs to remember...

1) You ARE beautiful at any size. Truth.

2) You CAN get to a healthier normal and we can do it together.

3) Every day is a new day to commit to making better choices... isn't that refreshing?

4) Believe in yourself.

Thanks for being great readers and friends, and thanks for letting me share my heart and journey. If you are on the same path, remember that you are not alone.

Wishing you renewed motivation and lovely encouragement!
