Confessional Friday

My goodness, Friday, I've been dying to see you since, well, Monday. Needless to say it's been a long week. When my alarm went off this morning I could've sworn it was Saturday, but alas it was not.

Anyway, I have big plans for the weekend that include roadtripping to Wichita w/ BF to see the fam, his fam, and our good friends! Should be busy and fun-filled, but I hope to get back at a decent time on Sunday to recover and relax!

So as a cheers to Friday, I'm linking up with Leslie's Confessional Friday over at A Blond Ambition... join the fun!

1) I think I've finally broken the sugar addiction. Or at least made progress. I gave up all added sugars for lent, allowing me to just have a few treats over Adam's b-day, and it's been touch-and-go there for a little bit.

For those that know me, I have the biggest sweet tooth. The amount of "treats" I enjoyed per week wasn't normal. Well, I have to say the yucky bloated, tummy hurting side-effects of eating sugar after not having it in a while was enough to keep me going! I like this new energy I've found, and even after Easter, I may limit it to 1-2 treats per week. Woah.

2) Cannot stop listening to this song. I heard it on the radio Tuesday, and it's been on repeat ever since. Why does it have to be so gosh darn catchy?! Guilty pleasure indeed.

3) I am ridiculously excited to be home this weekend. There's something about being around my family, sleeping in my old bed, and relaxing on the patio that feels oh-so-good! Come on 5 p.m.!!

4) I've been tossing around the idea of taking a random weekday off soon. I just feel a little frazzled and overwhelmed at work sometimes, and it would be nice to take a random Wednesday, get stuff done, and have some me time. Do you do this?

5) I feel like I've lost all sense of time. It's almost April? What is today? WHEN is Easter? Wasn't it just Christmas yesterday? I feel old.

6) Before I confess this one, let me just add a little disclaimer that I love my friends dearly... BUT some of these high-maintenance, bridezilla weddings need to end soon. I am honored to be in several weddings this spring/summer and a bunch of them are extremely fun to be a part of. It's just the random, dramatically stressed out bride/groom that I can't handle.

Smile. Relax. At the end of the day you're getting married. Who cares if the linens aren't the exact color of the bridesmaids dresses. Nobody will notice... promise.

This whole thing has me DREADING wedding planning one day. I am either eloping (did you hear that, Dad?!) or making my own wedding low key, fun to be a part of, and a joyous celebration (as it should be). There will be no craziness.

Happy weekend, dolls!

Today's Snapshot

One more day, folks! Just one more day!
I couldn't be more ready for a nice weekend in Wichita this weekend with Adam and my family. Should be filled with many of our favorite people!

In other news, I really enjoyed answering all of your questions yesterday and could relate to many of your wonderful comments - love you all! If you missed it, check it out here... so questions made me blush! :)

On to today...

{ Here's a little snapshot... }

{ Weather }
It's been completely gorgeous this week, but today the rain has set in. You won't find me complaining though, rainy day are my absolute fave!

{ Drinking }
Coffee. I am notorious for getting a hot cup of joe in the morning and sipping on it all day - I love it cold! My mom thinks that's totally gross, but I love it.

{ Listening }
Florence + the Machine. Cannot. Get. Enough.

{ Eating }
Lunch!! I'm starving already. Turkey and hummus sandwich on whole grain bread, sunchips, apple. Yummm.

{ Wearing }
Well lately the office has been freezing, even though it's in the 70s outside. So, I'm wearing my favorite dark wash skinny jeans from The Limited and my lightweight boyfriend sweater from the GAP (surpirise, surprise...). Love those stores!

{ Feeling }
Sleepy! We did a sushi bday dinner for our dear friend, Sean, last night, then saw 21 Jump Street (which was completely hilarious!!). I got home at 11:30 p.m. and crashed. Let me just say that the 7 a.m. alarm was ride awakening this morning.

{ Wanting }
I would love to have a little extra shopping money! So many cute dresses, skirts, flowy spring tops, swimsuits, and jewelry that I'm in love with. BUT, alas, I am not allowed. I have put myself on a spend free diet until all the weddings die down in the next 2 months. *sigh*

{ Needing }
I'm in desperate need of some new running shoes! My life was changed last year when I went to the custom running shoe store, where they watch you run, check out your old shoes to see where they wore down, and recommend the perfect shoe.

I felt like I was running on fluffy clouds after I bought new shoes last year, but with all the miles I've put on them... I'm well overdue for shoes that aren't broken down!

{ Thinking }
I can't wait for date night tonight! I'm heading to Zumba for a good workout, then Adam and I are going to make breakfast for dinner... brioche french toast, eggs, fruit, and bacon from the fresh farmer's market downtown. Yumm. Looking forward to snuggling and being lazy after dinner, maybe some board games will show up!? :)

{ Enjoying }
I love quiet days in the office. Not too many people here, my phone isn't ringing off the hook, and minimal e-mails. It feels good to be able to breathe and get things down in a more laid back atmosphere. Love it.

Meg: The Open Book

Happy Wednesday!!
Only 2 days to go until the weekend returns. I mean why can't we work 2 days and have a 5 day weekend... i think this system is slightly backwards if you ask me.

Anyway, thanks to those of you who played along and asked me questions yesterday on my Riddle Me This post. They were all really great questions - some serious, some made me giggle, and others made me blush.

Thanks to every single one of you for your questions!! xoxoxoxoxoxxo

So as promised, here are your answers...

1) Which trip would you pick (all expenses paid): Disneyworld (in another country) or an island (like the Maldives)?- The Vox

Ooohh! You're just trying to make it tough on me, aren't you? Well as many of you know, I am a huge Disney fan. I would love to one day in the future enjoy the lovely Disney land with my spouse and be little kids again!

BUT, that being said, if I had to choose, and it was all expenses paid, I would hands down say take me to an island! Any secluded, relaxing, romantic, outdoorsy, fun place! As long as there are pina coladas and surf, I'll be golden! UNLESS you can let me choose Disneyland and then and island to recover from the fun?

2)Whats one thing you've written about on your blog that you've debated whether or not you should post? Were you glad you did? - Sar

This one makes me think back a ways! I would have to say that I am highly uncomfortable in confrontational or emotional situations. Like nervous as can be. So whenever I post anything remotely political, personal, controversial, that makes me nervous as to what comments I will get or if I shared too much. A few examples of these posts include...

Church to Picket Elizabeth Edwards Funeral

Grab a Tissue (My Dad's Cancer Battle)

Haters Gonna Hate (Tim Tebow Character Defense)

3) How do you stay inspired to write (and not just post pictures of your breakfast every other day)? - Megan

Excellent question! Here's my theory: Some days you're inspired, some days your not. I try not to post unless I am inspired by something. I have both a notebook and an app on my phone where I write down things I'm excited about, want to share, fun ideas, etc.

I try to keep my eyes and heart open to what moves me, and then choose to share those things. Not every post will have a million comments, and not every reader can relate, but as long as I stay true to myself, I count that as a win.

4) How did you and Adam meet? - Amber

I was 22 years old living in Oklahoma City, and he was 25 living in Kansas City. I was planning to make a trip to Wichita, KS where my family lives for a family celebration, when my best friend Courtney called.

Both Courtney and her then-boyfriend (now husband), Matt, wanted to get together while I was in town. They mentioned Matt's cousin would also be int own that weekend and I didn't think anything of it... until the "Adam's such a nice guy!" talk began. Then I knew it was their sneaky mission to set us up.

I was absolutely against the idea of a double date, and said let's just grab all of our friends and hang out together. No pressure, no weird moments, just a mellow evening getting drinks or something.

So on August 22, 2009, we were all meeting at Granite City that night, and I was the last one to arrive (due to the family party going late). I was determined to be stubborn and not cave into their creepy matchmaking... and then I met Adam.

As soon as I shook his hand and looked into those big brown eyes, I was weak in the knees. We talked about our favorite beers and college sports (and that's how you get 'em, ladies! haha).

We all went back to my parents' house to sit around the bonfire were we discovered our mutual love for "(500) Days of Summer", and toward the end of the night, I conveniently added that I would be in Kansas City a month later for a wedding with the whole gang.

We talked in some form - e-mail/txt/FB/phone every day since that day. And on October 1, 2009 we officially became BF and GF. And then a month later I found out I got my dream job in Kansas City that I had applied to before I met Adam... and lived in his parents basement for a few weeks (but that's a whole 'nother story!).

5) Its been 2 1/2 years - when is Adam going to pop the question? : ) - Emily

And what a great follow-up question that made me both giggle nervously and blush. Excellent work, Emily!

This is how I see things... I am 25-years-old, extremely independents, have found my one and only, and am in no big rush to get married. I am a firm believer that every single couple is different and there isn't one way to do things.

We have friends that dated for 3 months and were married by 6, which is great for them, but (obviously not for us). I am forever thankful for these beautiful years where Adam had allowed me to get to know him inside and out.

We have gone through great triumphs, deaths, medical scares, situational changes, emotional seasons, diagnoses, hard days, joyous occasions, and more hand in hand.

Through these life moments, I've learned so much about how he is so supportive, quick to forgive, unconditionally loving (even when I don't deserve it), fun and patient, and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect other half for me.

So this being said, I can't imagine anyone but Adam to grow old and gray with. It could honestly happen tomorrow for all I know, or 7 months from now. All I know, is that I will always love that man for exactly who he is, and I would wait years if I had to in order to spend my life by his side.

So for now, I enjoy the moment and live in the present! :)

6) What is your favorite part about your home town/ what is a must see? - Seri

Oh my, now you have stumped me - haha! I grew up in Wichita, KS, where it's what I like to call a small big city. We still had great opportunities, good schools, pretty neighborhoods, culture, and much more, but with a very homey down-to-earth feeling.

My favorite things to do or see in Wichita? I absolutely love the Bradley Fair outdoor shopping/entertainment area. My favorite restaurant, Bella Luna is there, sissy has worked at the Cocoa Dolce chocolate shop, and Adam and I walked around the Bradley Fair pond holding hands on our first date.

Other than that, I'll really have to think! My favorite things are my parent's porch/firepit, large walking trails, you can get anywhere in 15 minutes, and I still have many dear friends and family that live there. It's a nice place to visit, but I love living in a large city with a change of scenery now! Wichita will always feel like home though! :)

.:::.:::.:::.:::.

Thanks for being such great sports! This was WAY fun!! :) You guys are the world's best readers, and I'm flattered that you even care to stop by regularly!!

{In Photos} How a Bad Day Got Better

Friends, we survived Monday!!
And let me just tell you, if any of you read my tweets from yesterday, you would've known I was WAY ready for the day to be over. Such a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.
(And if you don't know that reference you desperately need to check this out. )

Work was rough yesterday and by the time I left, I was certain the day was doomed, but let me just tell you how it got better...

Boyfriend came over and surprised me with these
(and the world's sweetest card)...

And then took me here...

...where I ordered this...

...and he told stories that made me smile as he held my hand across the table. That man is a real keeper, my friends. A real keeper.

The rest of my night consisted of baking these for work...

{Photos}

...while listening to this on repeat...

It was also quite lovely to find out I won Casey's giveaway, where I promptly ordered this from Fashion to Figure...

...and finished this fabulous gem of a novel (on to the 3rd!!)...

Confessional Friday...

Happy weekend, friends! Can I get a big amen?!
Couldn't be more excited that it's Friday. All week long I kept thinking it was Thursday and in one day the weekend would arrive. Imagine my disappointment and utter bewilderment when it turned out to be Monday afternoon.

Well, this is going to be a fun weekend full of bachelorette parties (tonight), birthday festivities (tomorrow)and relaxation... and let's just be honest, a few glasses of vino!

So let's kick off Friday by linking up with Leslie's Confessional Friday over at A Blond Ambition... join the fun!

1) Lately, all I want to do is shop. Shorts, jewelry, work outfits, dresses for weddings (not to be confused with wedding dresses), etc. However, I am reminded that my next bajillion paychecks are going to baby showers, wedding gifts, and wedding travel.

I saw this little number on Pink Lou Lou's blog this week and it took everything I had not to pull out my trusty debit card. Perhaps I can carve out a little fun money to share with my good friend Target? ;)

2) I need to take a moment to confess my lent shortcomings. I'm weak!! I originally gave up all sugar and this week I've been so naughty! I'm sure baking copious ooey gooey sweet treats for Adam's b-day didn't help. When they're not in front of me, I do so well, but I can't keep sweets at my house!! Ahh! From here on out... back to behaving!

3) I'm pretty sure I have blow dried and styled my hair approximately zero times this week. Yes, I know, my mother is shaking her head somewhere. I just love how healthy my long blonde locks feel when I air dry... however, this is probably a cop out and it's due to extreme morning sleepiness/laziness. I vow to be much more styled and polished this next week/weekend.

4) Somehow, I have managed to drop no less than three (yes, three) glasswhere items in my kitchen this week. Glass shards everywhere! What is my deal... maybe I need those grippy gloves NFL receivers wear?

Well, I am currently nursing a yucky cut on my big toe due to my butterfinger problem, but I think my Dora the Explorer bandaid is causing my quality of life to improve significantly! ;)

5) Y'all, I can't live without my planner. I know, I know, a tad bit OCD, but I misplaced it for a solid week and seriously thought my life was going to spontaneously combust. I need my colored tabs!! Where are my colored tabs?!

6) This morning is my bi-monthly payday Starbucks (yes, I only allow myself to go twice a month.. waa waaaa). I woke up super tired (due to The Hunger Games premier last night!), but excited for the promise of a tall skinny mocha to help me wake up! Drove to Starbucks ASAP...

...where I managed to justify waiting in a drive-thru lane of 15 cars instead of parking to go inside. I blame my ridiculous lack of motivation on the fact that I was up til 3 a.m. at The Hunger Games premier. Justifiable?

7) Dear goodness, I am so thankful that BF loves me unconditionally. I've been a hot mess on and off this week, and he always knows the right thing to say and how to make me feel special. God bless that man for dealing with my emotionally unsound moments. I even wrote him this mushy gushy love letter this week. He's the best.

7) When I need a morning pick-me-up, I just watch this video and die laughing. Like pee your pants/I can barely hold it/I should be wearing Depends uncontrollagble laughter. Click on it, and try to not even smirk... I dare you. Impossible.

.:::.:::.:::.:::.

What confessions do you have, loves?

Looking forward to jumping around to all the blogs today! Wishing all of you a weekend of fabulousness! After all, we working girls deserve it, right? Word.

March 22, 2012

Just Call Me a Teeny Bopper...

Because this little lass has tickets to the midnight showing of The Hunger Games!!! Yup, you heard that right. I will be spending the evening with Adam, our closest friends, and 10,000 kids on spring break at the movies! Woohoo!

After reading the first book, I just loved it far more than I ever imagined. Needless to say, the night I finished it I had to rush out and get the second book. I bring a whole new meaning to the word obsessed apparently.

Nevertheless, I am beyond thrilled that the gang and I have talked BF into tagging along. For whatever reason, he thought The Hunger Games was more in the Twilight saga category, but as soon as he heard the premise and read some reviews... he was all in! Here's your sneak peak...

Who else is planning to catch the film this weekend? Are you so excited? Did you read the book first?

"May the odds be ever in your favor..."

March 21, 2012

Dear Love...

Dear Love, today you turn 28...
I can hardly believe you were only 25 when I first met you that August night. My, where have the years gone? We've made so many wonderful memories together in these last few years that I will cherish for a lifetime.

So thankful that I've had the joy of celebrating you for 3 birthdays now, Buddy! Even though the years keep climbing, you're looking younger every day! ;)

Here's to you...

My best friend. My shoulder to cry on. My adventure buddy. My sunshine on a rainy day. My dependable protector. My dessert spliter. My forever optimist. My Disney movie lover. My boogie man checker-outer. My spiritual leader. My hand to hold. My handsome jokester. My laughter on a bad day. My forehead kisser. My great listener. My smile that makes me melt.

My chivalrous gentleman. My sports enthusiast. My loving encourager. My Saturday donut date. My face full of freckles. My family man. My sour jacks eater. My kid at heart. My selfless giver. My red-headed wonder. My snuggle buddy. My beer connoisseur. My knight in shining armor. My forever "wubber".
My other half.

I will love you forever and always, and couldn't feel more blessed and loved to have you. Life is forever more beautiful when you're by my side.

Happy Birthday, Sweetheart.

Birthday Baking: Cake Pops... Help!

This very week is my handsome man's 28th birthday!
In usual megnificent fashion, I must bake all things "Adam" so that I can fill his tummy with sweet treats.

This man sure loves desserts (almost as much as I do, which is hard to believe). Pies. Cakes. Brownies. Cookies. You name it!

So I had to think realllyyy hard (and also consult the bday boy) on what creative and tasty treats I can bake for Wednesday night's party. Here's my list...

{ Homemade Peanut Butter Cups }

{Strawberry Shortcake Cake }

{ German Chocolate Cake Pops }

So I've made the Pioneer Woman's Strawberry Shortcake Cake before, so it was a birthday boy request... so yummy! However, That man loves both chocolate/PB combo almost as much as he loves coconut (hint: the PB cups and cake pops).

I'm pretty comfortable with the directions for the Peanut Butter Cups, but these cake pops seem like a new challenge.

Cake Pop Extraordinaires:

Any tips? Tricks?
{ I need all the help I can get! }

Looking forward to my post-work baking fest!

Mingle Monday Weekly Blog Hop!

Welcome back, my friends!!
Did everyone have a stellar St. Patty's Day? Do anything fun and crazy? I got up early and met Adam for a nice trail run with Bella Beast. The weatehr was to die for!

After cleaning up, I picked up some yummy subs and met him at his house to watch the K-state game. Our Wildcats didn't fare too well, so Adam's beard went bye bye! Hello handsome face, I missed you!Later in the afternoon we went to the Sporting KC (soccer) opener and had a blast tailgating and such!

On Sunday morning, I attempted to sleep in, but instead woke up at 8:30 a.m. Bummer. BUT I woke up extremely motivated to tackle my spring cleaning. I cleaned my place from top to bottom, donated tons of items to a local charity, and it feels so good to have a tidy place to live now! :)

So enough about silly old me, shall we doa little blog hoppin'?

Photos + Concert + Random Recap

Bonjour, my loves!
Happy Thursday to you all! As many of you who follow me on Twitter know, Thursdays are always one of my favorite days of the week. Why? DATE NIGHT!

Yes, tonight is date night, and Adam threw out a great idea to try a mom and pop Italian restaurant that we've heard nothing but great things about... so excited! Is it 5 p.m yet?

Also on my happiness list... today is the first day of the NCAA tournament. The reason why this makes me happy, is every year Adam starts growing his "winter beard" in October and it lasts until sometime in March.

Although I think he looks ruggedly handsome with his facial hair, I miss his face! He made me a deal saying as soon as K-State loses in the tourney, his sweet baby face will return! :)

On to the randomness...

__________________________________________

{ Random Recap }

1) On Sunday afternoon I made this Strawberry Bread recipe and substituted the sugar and oil for honey and greek yogurt. It turned out to be tasty, but definitely less sweet.

{ Love my Anthro teacup measuring set! }

2) Sunday night, we had tickets for the Ben Rector/Needtobreathe concert. I have to admit that our sole reason in buying tickets was to see Ben again! That being said, we had a great time visiting The historic Midland Theater, even though it was rainy and chilly while we waited in line. Don't I look cold and a little rained upon?

{ Adam likes to make silly faces in almost every photo we have... }

3) Last winter/spring I was put on steroids to ease the symptoms of my autoimmune disease. I gained 20 lbs. in 3 months. Now that all of my medical issues have been managed without steroids, I am finally starting to lose the extra lbs!!

As of today, down 6.2 lbs!! Soooo close to being down into the next "decade"! Join me for FREE on MyFitnessPal and we can do this together!

4) Yesterday, I bought the world's best/cheapest running tights (and they are reversible! Blue waistband on the other side!) and fitted dri-fit tops from Target! I was so excited, I decided to do an awesome 4 mile run after work.

I highly recommend both to any runners out there. The tights fit like a dream, and I loved how the dri-fit shirt stayed in place my whole run and was very breatheable! I may go back for more! ;)

{ C9 by Champion Reversible Running Knee Tights }

{ C-9 by Champion Seamless Short-Sleeve Shirt }

5) Well, attempted to run the whole thing. 2 miles into my run, Bella Beast stopped, passed out in the middle of the path, and didn't want to budge another step. So I carried her all the way home... and then finished the last 2 miles!

Not sure what happened to my 6 mile running companion went, but I have a feeling I'll need to build up her fitness again! ;) Slowly on my way to half marathon status!
